This is a much anticipated annual event in the park, the mole invasion. These little critters are highly organised and select only the finest cricket turf to dig their mounds, in this remarkably neat pattern. A day later and the moles vanish; probably hibernating until next summer.
The event signifies in some ways the end of summer and the start of autumn and winter on the sports pitches in the park. The parks department is also getting ready for starting the autumn haircuts. The mechanical beasts with attachments shown in the photo will be used throughout the borough of Ealing to keep all the sports pitches, meadows and grassland in good trim. Today Perivale park is honoured with their presence.
