The Litten Nature Reserve

Nestling amongst the back gardens of Greenford centre and not far from Perivale Park is this wonderful little nature reserve.

The entrance is along Oldfield Lane South, but you could be forgiven for not noticing it, and since it is only open on select days, you have to plan your visit in advance. The next open day is on Saturday June 17th, when you can turn up for a tour. And it is very well worth a visit. Quite a surprise are the multiple ponds, no doubt full of wildlife. On our visit, as I turned the corner to one of the bigger ponds, I noticed really quite large circular ripples spreading out. The creature that had created them had already hidden, so I can only speculate what it was. The entire reserve is surrounded by back gardens from local streets. The area itself was part of a large manor house, now long demolished, and was created as a nature reserve only a few decades ago. Nowadays it is a paradise for local schoolchildren, who were there in abundance when we went. And finally thanks to Mike of the Litten Friends group for taking us round!
