Park nature walk – observations

On July 8th,  led by  Neil Anderson, we set out on a nature walk, taking in a large part of  Perivale Park.  Notes of what we saw, kindly provided by Neil, are shown below, along with some photos taken by myself.

The highlight, as you can see below is the sighting of four different raptors, and the swifts overhead. Along the way we encountered another group, this time of LAGER CAN litter pickers, on their own way to the park. At the end a sub-group went off to visit Coston’s Nature reserve.


Neil’s report:

Butterflies seen: Meadow Brown, Gatekeeper, Speckled Wood, Marbled White, Large & Small Skipper, female Brimstone, Red Admiral, Comma, Small Tortoiseshell in flower garden, Small & Green-veined White, Holly Blue. Also migrant Silver-Y moth.

Several Emperor dragonflies, Common Blue Damselflies, Black-tailed skimmer.

Roesel’s Bush-cricket & many Meadow Grasshoppers.

Good variety of raptors with 3 Red Kite, Sparrowhawk, Hobby ( a highlight!), Kestrel. Also 40+ Swift, pair of Grey Wagtail on Brent, several Blackcaps, Chiffchaff & Whitethroat.

Many plants seen including Tansy, Prickly Lettuce, Purple Loosestrife, Cornflower.
